Rectangle: a belt does not invent the waist

Women’s clothes. The line is vertical. A belt, once the cloth is damp, gets in the way.

On a rectangle, shoulders, waist, and hips sit on nearly one line. The usual fix is a belt. In Houston in October that fix fails. The high is 82.8 °F, the rain normal is 5.46 inches, and the air at the airport point is still sticky. Wet poplin plus a buckle pinches the middle of a column. It does not draw a waist. It cuts one in.

Kept on this address. Both frames are the same 5'4" woman. September at the airport point averages 74.20% relative humidity. October is 75.10%. November, cooler on the thermometer, is 78.81%. Heat and cling do not peak in the same month.

September heats the column. October sticks it.

September at IAH reaches 90.4 °F with 4.71 inches. A dark pant, high rise, in that sun, heats the whole leg because there is no break of cloth at the waist to split the heat. October lowers the high to 82.8 °F and raises the rain total to 5.46 inches. The problem stops being the oven and becomes the damp line: 75.10% mean relative humidity in the reanalysis at 29.9844, −95.3414. The belt that only pinched in September leaves a wet stripe in October.

November is the trap. The high is 72.6 °F, so a jacket finally sounds right, and the same reanalysis reads 78.81% humidity, higher than October. The air sticks more as the layer arrives. The belt still does not belong. A jacket that has to stay closed to “make the waist” boxes a column that was cleaner open.

Office day, OctoberShirt and pants in one color family, high rise, no buckle. Rain shell straight and open, not tied. If it is tied, it becomes the fake waist this page refuses. Closed shoe. At 90.4 °F the shell stays in the bag. It is not worn from the parking lot at noon.

A wide hem, at 28 inches, builds a base

28-inch inseam

A wide leg that pools adds inches at the floor. The column grows a base and the body looks squarer. The hem clears the puddle, even if the pant is straight rather than wide.

32-inch regular

The same straight leg can keep its length, as long as it does not drink the sidewalk. Length is not gained by sizing up. Ease at the hip breaks the vertical line, which is the only thing this body has working for it.

The 5'4" woman in the photos is the sample, not a census figure. She does not settle both inseams by herself.

Questions

Should a rectangle belt the waist in Houston fall?

No. October at IAH is 82.8 °F and 5.46 inches, and humidity at the airport point still averages 75.10%. A buckle on wet poplin pinches the column. Shirt and pants stay in one color family.

Why are September and October not the same outfit?

September hits 90.4 °F. October is 82.8 °F with a higher rain total, and the reanalysis humidity is 75.10% against 74.20% in September. One month heats a dark cloth. The next sticks it.

Does the rain shell get tied?

No. Open and straight. Tied, it manufactures the waist this body does not have, and wet, it looks worse than no shell.
